ARRIVAL IN DAKAR

Upon arrival in Dakar, guests are met at the airport and transferred to the hotel. Begin your introduction to Senegal with a guided city tour, including visits to the Museum of Black Civilizations and Dakar Cathedral. Enjoy our Welcome Brunch before continuing to the hotel for check-in and relaxation after your journey.

Day 2 - October 11, 2026

AFRICAN WOMEN MARKET SENEGAL

After breakfast, continue exploring Dakar with visits to the Presidential Palace area, National Assembly, Independence Square, Kermel Market, and the historic train station. Travel by ferry to Gorée Island, a former slave trading center and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the House of Slaves and its iconic “Door of No Return,” a powerful reminder of the transatlantic slave trade. Return to Dakar in the afternoon, concluding the day with scenic views along the Corniche and a visit to the African Renaissance Monument.

PINK LAKE ST. LOUIS

Depart Dakar after breakfast for Pink Lake (Lac Retba), a unique natural phenomenon known for its rose-colored waters caused by salt-loving microorganisms. Enjoy a walking tour, optional canoe ride, and time to experience the lake. Continue onward to Saint-Louis, Senegal’s former colonial capital and UNESCO World Heritage city. In the evening, explore the old town by horse-drawn carriage, discovering colonial architecture and the fishing village nestled between the river and the Atlantic Ocean.

DJOUDJ BIRD SANCTUARY & SAINT-LOUIS

Travel from Saint-Louis to Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary, one of the world’s most important bird reserves and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Home to nearly 300 bird species, including flamingos and pelicans, the wetlands are explored by traditional pirogue. Return to Saint-Louis in the evening and visit Guet N’Dar, the vibrant fishing district, where you’ll observe daily life as fishermen return with their catch.

Spiritual Senegal

Depart Saint-Louis and journey to Touba, the spiritual heart of Senegal and center of the Mouride Brotherhood. Visit the Grand Mosque of Touba, one of the largest mosques in West Africa, and learn about the life and legacy of Sheikh Amadou Bamba. Continue onward to Kaolack for hotel check-in and rest.

SENEGAL TO GAMBIA

Travel early to the Gambian border and continue to Juffureh, the ancestral village of Kunta Kinte, made famous by Alex Haley’s Roots. Visit Kunta Kinteh Island (formerly James Island), a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving the memory of the transatlantic slave trade. Cross the Gambia River by ferry and arrive in Banjul for hotel check-in.

BANJUL CITY TOUR

Enjoy a guided tour of Banjul, including Albert Market, the city’s bustling commercial hub filled with textiles, produce, and crafts. Visit the National Museum and pass by Arch 22, the tallest structure in The Gambia. Continue to Kachikally Crocodile Pool, a sacred cultural site, before heading to Tanji Fishing Village to witness the colorful fish landing market. Evening return to the hotel with an option for live music and dinner in the Senegambia area.

LEISURE DAY IN THE GAMBIA

Enjoy a leisurely day at your own pace. Relax at the hotel, explore nearby beaches, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy optional local experiences before your final night in The Gambia.

LOCAL CULTURE SENEGAL

We will begin our morning drive back to Senegal in the morning. After crossing over into Senegal, we will stop in a local village to engage and interact with the locals. We will also engage in a cooking class.

FAREWELL EAST AFRICA

Enjoy your final morning at leisure before transferring to Yundum International Airport for departure. Check-out is at noon, with airport transfer scheduled three hours prior to your flight.
